British online gambling company Bet365 Group Ltd was founded in the United Kingdom and is headquartered in London. Denise Coates, the company’s co-founder along with her brother John, remains the company’s primary shareholder and co-CEO. It’s an online gambling platform where you can wager on sports and play casino games.

Besides its Stoke-on-Trent headquarters where it also runs a sportsbook, it has operations in Manchester, Gibraltar, Malta, and Bulgaria in addition to its offices in Australia. The company intends to have 4,000 workers by 2020. As a result, Hillside (New Media) Ltd. conducts business as Bet365, and all of the company’s activities, including payments received through the affiliate program, are conducted under that name.

Brief Background

Denise Coates started Bet365 in a temporary structure in Stoke-on-Trent in 2000. Denise created a sports betting platform and set up a trade team to support it before launching the business online in March 2001. Denise Coates has been in charge of the family’s betting shop since 1995, while Peter Coates founded it in 1974. The betting store was used as security for a £15 million loan from the Royal Bank of Scotland. It sold its betting shop license to Coral for £40 million in 2005, wiping all its RBS debt in the process.

Stoke City’s chairman Peter Coates also serves as the chairman of Bet365, which signed a three-year jersey sponsorship deal with Stoke City in May 2012. Besides being chairman of Bet365, Coates is also a businessman. Taking over for the following six seasons, the corporation became the new title sponsor in April 2016, replacing a fellow local business, the Britannia Building Society. It also inked jersey sponsorship deals with Bulgarian clubs Ludogorets Razgrad and Slavia Sofia in the summer of 2016 for the next seasons of both teams.

Sport bets at Bet365 amounted to $52.05. The company made $2.86.1billion in revenue while earning $660.3m in net income in March 2018. This month, the corporation brought in £2.86 billion in sales and made £660.3 million in operational profit.

The company’s co-CEO Denise Coates also maintains control of the company, holding a 50.1% interest in its stock. They work side by side to operate the company that is led by Peter’s father John, who is joint chairman of the board. The firm is currently building a purpose-built office with a view of Valletta in Malta.

Betting companies such as William Hill, GVC Holdings, Flutter Entertainment, Star Group, and Bet365, among others, have pledged to give money to organizations fighting gambling addiction beginning in the summer of 2019. A five-year rise from 0.1% of gross domestic product was eventually agreed upon.

Recognition and Accomplishments

To celebrate the publication of eGaming Review magazine’s 10th anniversary, Bet365 was named “Operator of the Year” at the eGaming Review Operator Awards 2010. The Sunday Times Profit Track 100 league table, which ranks private UK firms based on their profit growth rate, has Bet365 as the third-place finisher. Bet365 was also named one of the fastest-growing privately held media, technology, and telecoms firms in the Sunday Times Tech Track 100 league table.

Bet365 was named the top Internet gaming company in 2010, 2011, and 2012 by eGaming Review magazine’s annual Power 50 ranking of the top 50 most well-known online gambling companies. Denise Coates, co-founder, and CEO of Bet365 was awarded a CBE in 2012 for her contributions to the community and business. According to the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List, the award was given to the recipient. In February 2013, BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour program named Denise Coates one of the country’s top 100 most influential women.

The “Digital Operator” category was won by Bet365 at the 2018 Global Gaming Awards in Las Vegas. Bet365 won the “Online Sports Betting Operator” award at the Global Gaming Awards in London in 2021. As part of the “Affiliate Program,” Bet365 Partners was also given a bonus.

Controversies

According to a story in the Guardian from October 2014, the business was collecting bets from Chinese citizens by utilizing obscure domain names to get around government internet censorship. Previously, the firm refuted this claim. As a result of deceptive advertising that falsely promised clients “free bets,” the betting operator Bet365 was fined AUD 2.75 million in 2016.

After getting a total of £217 million in compensation, Denise Coates was named the UK’s highest-paid CEO for 2017. She made £265 million last year, when the corporation reported a 31% increase in revenues to £660 million, provoking criticism from problem gambling organizations and other groups. The Coates family – Denise, John, and Peter – paid an estimated total tax of £156 million in January 2019, with Denise alone paying £99 million, according to The Sunday Times’ list of the UK’s highest taxpayers.

Bet365, a bookmaker, has received a scolding in the past for failing to pay out winning players on time or at all. When a Northern Ireland horse bettor won over £1 million on wagers, Bet365 was sued for refusing to pay him. The problem began in 2016 when the corporation refused to pay £54,000 to a UK punter. It’s still an issue now, in 2017.

Bet365, an Australian sportsbook, and casino refused to pay a player who won AUD 200,000 in 2016 and canceled the player’s account. It’s important to keep in mind that these are only a handful of the most egregious instances of Bet365 refusing to pay out winnings to players.
